SamuraiChess.com is currently maintained by Gene Davis. SamuraiChess.com is dedicated to the advancement of Shogi interest in the English speaking world. Not enough English speakers even know of Shogi, and definitely too few play this wonderful board game.
My interest in Shogi began with a Japanese friend who got tired of not winning Chess matches against me. He took out his frustration by bringing out a Shogi board and beating me thoroughly.
I was hooked.
I had him write down the English names of pieces and a short list of rules. When we parted ways, he gave me his Shogi board and pieces. I've cherished them ever since. He and I have lost track of each other and are unlikely to meet up again, but I have memories and the Shogi set and rules still.
Finding opponents has been difficult. This frustration led me to write Shogi for You and Me, a computer Shogi game. Hopefully, we can populate the Clubs and Events sections of this site so that finding opponents won't be as difficult for new players of Shogi. Please see information on those pages and volunteer more information to fill those sections.
